From our base in the heart of Sorrento, we visit the enchanting island of Capri and the fascinating ruined city of Pompeii. As part of the central Socialeyes quest to experience the real Italy, we offer you many options, including cooking… the Italian way!.

Day 1: Sunday 23rd August
Arrive in Sorrento
Transfer from Naples airport to hotel in Sorrento. This evening, we enjoy our first Italian meal together, getting to know each other over a glass of traditional limoncello or two!

Day 2: - Monday 24th August
Free day to relax or explore
You may wish to take this opportunity to take a guided tour through the streets of the historic centre of Sorrento. Walk through the streets of the town centre, where ancient Roman structures and even earlier remains dating from ancient Greek colonization still feature prominently among the present day townscape. Along these streets, lit at night by quaintly atmospheric street lighting, lie the hidden treasures and centuries-old secrets that comprise the history of Sorrento. When dawn breaks on these same streets, the air is filled with the scent of freshly baked bread and the colourful bustle of voices and footsteps along the medieval, cobbled streets and market places.

The centre of Sorrento features a wealth of alleyways, shops and churches, each with its own story to tell. History, culture and legends abound as this unique locality welcomes each visitor and promises to share with them its colourful past as well as its beautiful present.

Day 3: Tuesday 25th August
Today, we journey together back in time as we visited the historical city of Pompeii on our privately guided tour. Pompeii always invokes an intense fascination for visitors. Following the spectacular eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79AD, Pompeii lay buried and forgotten for centuries. Excavations began in the 18th century and have subsequently uncovered complex networks of ruins which include city gates, streets, gymnasia, thermal baths, civil and religious buildings, modest dwellings and stately homes, shops and fountains. Here, historical discovery is intertwined with a spine-chilling tale of human tragedy.

Day 4: Wednesday 26th August
Free day to relax or explore
Perhaps today you may take a boat ride to explore the splendid jewel in the coastline, Positano with your travelling companions. Built in to the mountain, picturesque pink and white villas perch dramatically on the steep hillside and provide spectacular views. Spend the day at your leisure, climbing the winding stairs to admire the scenery from above, browsing through the beautiful boutiques, and relaxing by the sea side. Finally immerse yourself in the true Italy by savouring some special delicacies in a traditional local restaurant. This evening, perhaps you may like to join us as we sample Sorrento at night.

Day 5: Thursday 27th August
Free to relax or explore – or perhaps to try an optional cooking lesson
This lesson offers you a practical insight into the production of a complete seasonal menu, with a particular focus on local specialties, ranging from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. What better way to learn about and to savour such a deliciously traditional cuisine?

Day 6: Friday 28th August
Full day optional excursion to the evocative island of Capri
We begin this unforgettable day by sailing across the Bay of Naples to the shores of this legendary island, which is about four miles long and two miles wide. Seldom has so small an island had so much said, written and sung about it over so many centuries. You will have the option to visit the fascinating villa, built on the remains of an ancient Roman settlement and offering splendid views of the island. You can also watch the world go by in one of Capri's pretty, open-air cafes, discover the labyrinth of medieval cobbled alleyways, meander through the market stalls which sell traditional island handicrafts, admire the sights and scents of the colourful gardens or simply relax on the beach.

Day 7: Saturday 29th August
Free to relax or explore – perhaps take an optional half day tour to Herculaneum
Herculaneum is unjustly less well known than its bigger brother Pompeii, as the preservation of the buildings is generally superior. It too was buried during the same series of eruptions that destroyed Pompeii and was originally discovered again when a well was being dug in the early 18th century. This evening, join the group for a farewell get-together over dinner and drinks.

Today, we must sadly say goodbye to our new friends and transfer from our hotel to Naples airport for return flight home.
